Today we're going to talk about graphic design software applications on linux platforms. Graphic design software for linux is actually quite a lot, varied, of course, each having an idealistic specialization, and most of them are free under the GNU /GPL. There are several well-known graphics processing software in linux. Of those softwares have been many designers are getting recognition, appreciation and design work that we should emulate.
There are many ways in the achievement of good graphic design work. Both techniques, field, type, color and software. The designers don't have a benchmark basis in the way of producing good graphics, but graphics benchmark results are good, and in accordance with the rules. There are also some others that without going through these rules and still have good results. Okay, now time for us to discuss about what are the graphics softwares that can be used on linux platform.
Graphic Softwares on Linux Platform
Because graphic design is divided into several categories, then the means to process also varies depending on the needs and goals.
1. Graphic Software: Layout Processing application (Layout)
XPDF
Scribus as an alternate of Adobe InDesign
Artstream
2. Graphic Software: Vector Processing Applications
Graphics softwares included in this group can be used to create images in vector form so often referred to as the Illustrator program. All the objects that produced a combination of several lines, either straight or curved lines. Some of them are:
Inkspace
Pstoedit
Sodipodi
Killustrator on Koffice
Uniconvertor
Sketch 0.6.7
3. Graphic Software: Images and pixel processing applications
Graphics softwares included in this group can be used for image processing or photo manipulation (photo retouching). Pseudo-object that is processed in several program is considered as a combination of points / pixels that have a certain density and color, for example, photographs. Images in an image is formed from a set of pixels that have a certain density and color. Even so, the programs included in this group can also process the text and lines, but regarded as a collection of pixels. Objects imported from vector processing program, when processed with processing program pixel / point will automatically be converted into the form of pixels / dots. Some of them are:
Gimp
Digikam
Raw terapee
Mypaint
Qtpfsgui
Krita
Photogenics
Picasa 3 for Linux
4. Graphic Software: Video / Film processing applications
Graphics softwares included in this group can be used to process the film in various formats. Placement of the title text (such as karaoke, subtitles, etc.) can also be processed using this program. Generally, the granting of special effects such as explosions, bullets whistle, waves, etc. can also be created using this application. These applications are:
F4L ( Flash for linux )
VSTi as an alternate of fruityloop
Cinerella
Openshot
Svidemux
KDenlive
Synfig
5. Graphic Software: Multimedia Processing Applications
Graphics softwares included in this group is usually used to make work in the form: contains multimedia promotions, company profile, and the like and is packaged in a CD or DVD. They can contain movies, animation, text, images, and sounds that are designed in such a way that the message is more interactive and interesting.

6.Graphic Software: 3-D PROCESSING
It is said that some three-dimensional animations that we often see in theaters utilizing open source software on linux. From some of the popular software are as follows:
Blender
POVray renderer
Softimage XSI
Houdini AP
CAD Package for the Linux User | KCAD
QCAD
Intellicad
Art of illusion
Crystal space 3d
Freewrl
K3dsurf
Kpovmodeler
Povray.org
Moonlight3d
POV modelling
7.Graphic Software: Programming Softwares for graphic design
For those of you who work as graphic designers or those who are currently studying graphic design and aims to enter the internet world, it is obligatory to be able to master the programming. Well, this is a list of software for programming that will assist you in graphic design via linux platform:
Kompozer
Nvu
Exclipse
Quanta
Bluefish
8. Font
Graphic design in addition to solely discuss the line or shape, there are also some who cultivate and pursue the font. The need for fonts as typographic work, very helpful in making other graphic design work. Some software has been created specifically for the creation and organization of the letter is as follows.
Fontforge
Fontmatrix
Showcase
There have been many designers who have created works with good results and even exceed the works that use paid software. From most of the designers who successfully use open source software is as follows:
Jimmac
Projek durian
Area42

To be honest I am still very new in linux, so if it turns out there are writing errors in grouping, please be advised. I expect you to comment on the comments box below to confirm, the proposed addition of software, and reporting faults. A toast to you!

@Anonymous
ReplyOh yeah -I forgot to add that one
thanks a lot for your contribution!
Graphics software mentioned above is really very good and useful too. We are using many of this graphics software.
ReplyAs many guys and galls, I come to linux from having toiled in Windows. I work in graphic design and my utmost favourite program is Xara Designer that has more and more replaced other programms like photoshop, illustrator and even Indesign. I recently (apr. 2012) found a somewhat older Xara version that seems to works for Linux/Debian. (I am NOT talking about running Xara on the virtual windows desktop of Wine, because that version is unstable)
ReplyIt's seems Obvius you are new to linux.
ReplyLet me tell you something, many people that switched in the past to linux (Like me) found that many programs in the list are away it doesn't exist anymore:
Update your list
You didn't included Autodesk products as Maya, Mudbox, Composite, Flame, Inferno.
You have skipped Pencil a nice 2D animation program, FL4 I don't recomend to Use.
Artstream, Sipodi and some doesn't exist anymore.
Really post on prodcuts of linux you really use, don't only look from other posts or in wikipedia
