10. Eesti filmiklassika DVD series via Merike Tamm
The package design's concept is "Flight of a swallow", the movie frames are placed as shards on the flight's path. When one is thinking on these movies, one certain poster like image doesn't appear in the mind, the mental images consist of bits and pieces of different scenes. Since the main accent on the DVD-boxes are on the movie stills, the supporting graphics are as light as possible. The graphics work as a conjoining element between the separate movies to form the wholeness of the series.Different colours are supporting the weekly saleThe series gathers a selection of 30 movies from the estonian movie making history - 100 years anniversary.
Using a swallow as the main motive seemed logical, since the first film here was made by Johannes Pääsuke (pääsuke means swallow) and a swallow is also the national bird of Estonia. There was also a necessity to make each DVD differ from the previous one since they are also on sale in stores - every week, only one movie is being sold. The backs of the DVDs come together as a puzzle of flying swallows in different colours.

29. Building Stories - Costas Kondylis via Squat Design
Costas Kondylis is the man most likely responsible for not only the way Manhattan looks today but also developing the basis of how New York City will look in the future. He has built thousands of stories all over the Greater New York Area, and the world, 86 buildings of which are in Manhattan. The Real Deal Magazine produced a film documenting the work and life of this legendary architect. After “Building Stories” was completed, they asked Squat Design to brand the film (soon to be seen on PBS) and its premier as well as research, write, compilate and graphic design the accompanying book.
Squat Design provided motion graphics for the film. We designed the promotional poster, e-brochure, ticket, evite and print invitation to the red-carpet gala premier. The DVD and its packaging was conceptualized and created by us, as well as the book. The book is comprised of photographs of Mr. Kondylis, family photos, drawings of buildings taken from Mr. Kondylis’ sketch book, a life and work timeline which visualizes the major impact Mr. Kondylis has made in the world of architecture and original illustrations of iconic figures such as Donald Trump, who appear in the film.
30. Hugo Wolf Lied Lab via tobias schererbauer
The Lied Lab 2010 Hugo Wolf Festival is a creative workshop bringing together the traditional songs of composer Hugo Wolf and contemporary visuals on five evenings.
The design concept started with a typographical examination. The result is a font made of rather abstract geometric elements, almost similar to a stencilled lettering referring to musical tokens.
Typography is applied to the invitation poster printed on translucent leightweight paper. The accompanying songbooks contain abstract illustrations and colours in line with the five main topics. The DVD Packaging forms the title "Hugo Wolf" in either way combined.
