If such a question posed to the self-taught designer, there will be several different answers we get, for example:

  • "Use your artistic instincts."
  • "Please refer to some of the typography theories, start of anatomy, font types, natures, until the readability on the publication, of course, according to the type of publication."
  • "Choose one that fits the image you want to display."

If such questions put to the designer of a college graduate, may be the answer you will get will be quite different from the self-taught, such as:

  • The font used should be representative publications explicative static objects (inanimate objects-typically fall into Sans Serif typeface), or dynamic objects (objects of life-usually falls to the Serif font option). And this first feasibility test cannot be directly used, before going through a second feasibility test.
  • Who will be the readers of the publication? Fonts for teen and children magazines would be different from the font for the political magazine.
  • What kind of intonation to be put forward? Does it have to impress: graceful, elegant, dynamic, playful, ethnic, assertive, provocative, prohibition, persuade, systematic, etc.
  • Trends: It is inevitable that we choose objects based on the trend factor, for example, when you exercise you are wearing T-shirts and sneakers, as well as font selection, font trend for religious publications will be much different from rock music publication. Normally by following trends, we will use a type of decorative fonts specially designed, such as the type font on some movie posters headlines such as: Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Batman, etc. which have their own special letters, then we will try to emulate the style trend.
