Of course we hope for graphic design to get recognition from the wider community as an applied science, skills or expertise, and also the profession. But it wasn't easy to achieve it all. General don'tt know what and how is graphic design. Necessary effort to provide insight into this industry for continually running as it should.

Here are some erroneous understanding of graphic design:


1) Design is the computer

This is the most common understanding of general information about graphic design. They think that graphic design is merely using computer software to create beautiful images and pleasing to the eye. The fact is not so! Just Because you know how to use every function in Photoshop does not mean you can create good graphic design. Graphic design is a job that requires such a search process to formulate ideas and concepts to provide visual communication solutions. Mastery of software that serves to execute a work is only part of several methods and process of a work.

2) Designer is good at drawing

Even in the current era, where the effects of modern graphics that can be created quickly with the use of graphics software, ordinary people still think that the main capabilities of a designer is drawing. It's not completely wrong, basically drawing ability is one of the visual skills that are useful for designers. But it does not necessarily mean being a designer must be able to draw perfectly. Graphic design is the understanding of visual communication. Whatever you can do to communicate a visual message effectively, then you have successfully created a design works well.

3) Designer is full of creativity

When talking about graphic design, people will tend to equate it with creativity. But believe it or not, everyone is basically creative, but some factors such as: environment and personality can influence one's creativity. Basically every graphic designers are human beings equal to every human being on earth, but only the demands, passion and love of their profession that can make them progress within the scope of creativity. Trying and keep trying to find something new.

4) Graphic Design is Art, Art is Graphic Design

general public often understand graphic design aesthetically, and not about function. This is also why graphic design and visual arts were considered the same. The reality is not so! Graphic design and visual arts are two different things. While graphic design is the applied art that focuses on information of delivery function, aesthetics is just a technical part that is used to achieve these functions. What about visual art? Visual art is free, individualistic, and tend to be expressive. No any purpose that is targeted for the audience to move to do something.

5) Graphic designer work according to his own taste

Another misconception by the general public about graphic design, taste! Whether or not a design can not be propped up only to the tastes and aesthetic considerations. Graphic design has a principle of communication strategies that aim to understand rather than to get appreciation. Graphic design is intended for an audience moved to do what is instructed in a work either directly or indirectly, and rather than let the audience stood long in front of the work, saying: "Oh, that's beautiful .."
