30 Foil Blocked Business Card Designs for Inspiration
Today we have showcased a wide range of foil blocked business card designs, each representing different style and purpose. Foil blocking can transform conventionally business cards and make them shine.

Foil blocking or foil stamping is a process and is basically metal foil which is used to create shiny metal foil effects on the business card. The process of foil blocking is that a block is made from your business card design and then the metallic or coloured foil is then impressed onto the paper or board, this is always done after the litho printing element of the job but always before the finishing.

Foiling and embossing can be used on the same image, firstly foiled and then embossed and when combined with embossed images it produces varying tactile effects which will further enhance the printed message and provide shelf appeal.

CORD Worldwide are a sonic branding company originated in London.
They came to us with a new name and required a new image. Having operated as cutting edge commercial for the last 6 years, this was a daunting process. Having to relaunch to the market with a new name and new persona. The brief was to update their image and bring them to the forefront of their market. They had a common love for neon signage, so we decided to try and explore this route. We have created a simple, single lined logotype that mirrored and translated well into neon signage. Their stationery was also treated with as much respect. Matt Neon Cyan foil blocking onto triplexed GF Smith Colorplan Cool Grey board with a photoshoot image printed to the reverse.

5. Herlihy Foil blocked Business Card Design Designed by Naomi Farrar

A luxury brand, House of Herlihy has been designed with a premium finish in mind. Foil blocking on the business cards and lookbook, as well as swing tags and packaging brings this vibe to the brand. The custom type logo, based upon the font ‘Konstata’ represents the polished finish of the clothing, and adds an edgier element whilst still being elegant and feminine. Lighter colour choices for stock and packaging, as well as the premium nature of the papers and foils, help provide a contrast to the clothes themselves without compromising the value or impact of the branding.

Using simple colours and a photographic based layout for the production and design of the lookbook means that the focal element of the promotional materials remains the range of clothing. The branding is designed to be subtle when combined with the products and promotional photography, as well as being distinctive when viewed on its own. Flyers and editorial advertisements have been designed to run alongside the showing of the collection at Manchester Fashion Week, and the business cards and lookbooks have been designed and printed with this audience in mind.

As designers, we have the ability to visualise and produce logo marks and brands for other people but when it comes to constricting our own the challenge is much greater. I decided to use Baskerville as the basis of my branding as it is a solidly formed serif typeface with carefully produced letterforms which provide the balance of thick and thin strokes allowing the opportunity to create something visual interesting. I wanted my logo mark or logotype to be simplistic but effective. USing hot foil plates i have produced two variations of the logotype, on debased the other foil blocked in silver against a white an uncoated 300gsm card stock.
