In the world there are many different types of egg packages and boxes which vary both in technology, design and packaging material used. The function of an egg packaging is not only to protect the product inside, but also to increase the sale value. So don't be surprised if the price of the eggs tend to be expensive just because it is packed with very clever interesting.
Before its invention, eggs were carried in egg baskets. The egg carton was invented in 1911 by newspaper editor Joseph Coyle of Smithers, British Columbia, to solve a dispute between a local farmer and hotel owner in Aldermere, near present day Telkwa, in British Columbia, over the farmer's eggs often being delivered broken.

1. Egg box | Innovative package via otília erdélyi
The goal was to design an innovative egg box using a small amount of material.
2. The Egg Guardian via Stephanie Alexander
This project was based on research gathered on the subject of sustainable food packaging. The Egg Guardian, is a conceptual package design for eggs, aimed at reducing waste. The product is reusable, and made from aluminum due to its recyclable qualities, durability, and ability to be easily cleaned. The Egg Guardian folds flat, so that the user can easily carry it to the shops with them, open it up, and fill it with the desired amount of eggs needed.

4. Egg Box 1 via Anita Vaskó
Material used to produce this product is natural mikrowaved carton. This egg holder is created not by glueing. From the environmental point of view, it´s recyclable, and the production is possible with the least quantity of material and little cut-offs.
5. Egg box redesign via Éva Valicsek
Material used to produce this product is natural mikrowaved carton and as a complementary material rubber. The rubber function as a shape memory alloy allows to hold eggs regardless of their sizes. The eggs placed into an ellipsoid, cut from the carton. The egg holder is open from the top, but if its turned upside down, it will still hold firmly the eggs, they will not fall because of the elasticity of the rubber. It´s easy to be filled up, and as a user friendly product, the consumer can get the egg without having to open it. The egg holder consists of one piece. This egg holder is created not by glueing, but is fixed to the base. It can be stored in piles; if the sides are increased, it can stand lateral forces. From the environmental point of view, it´s recyclable, and the production is possible with the least quantity of material and little cut-offs.

Branding for local free-range eggs: Branding for a client that desired a unique way to promote the local, home-grown nature of their free-range eggs. The lettering used for 'Meg's Eggs' was created specifically for this design.

Micro corrugated cardboard package for 6 normal eggs. The package is from two pieces, space-saving, without glue. One part from cells and he other one is for closing. The cells are use to hold the eggs and the closing part stabilizing them. You can take out the eggs by pressing the snapping edge on the bottom and the eggs will emerge from the package. The using of "Y" closing makes possible to leave out the gluing and also stabilizing the eggs inside the package. The reproduction makes only a tiny amount of waste so it's eco friendly and cheap.
